Up to four teams can play against each other with 3 or 6 vehicles in each team. You can select whether each team is controlled by a human or by the computer or is not used at all. There is a separate option for selecting the ability (skill level) for all computer teams. You can also choose which vehicle types are used in the game & how many rounds you play to decide the overall winner.
Vehicle | Toughness | Gun Power | Speed |
---|---|---|---|
Jeep | 100 | 60 | Fast |
Tank | 200 | 80 | Medium |
Boat | 75 | 60 | Medium |
Here you can change three options.
First is the sound volume which can be changed between 0 (off) and 10 (max volume).
Next is the displaying of distance values. If changed to not show distance values you will get no help with choosing the correct power value when shooting. This makes things a lot harder.
Finally you can alter whether or not you get the option to choose the landscape on which you fight each battle.
The current option settings are saved when you exit the game.
Games consist of a number of rounds in which all players fight to the death. Each player must try and destroy all the vehicles of the other players, while avoiding losing their own. At the start of each round you have to choose a landscape on which to have your battle (unless you turn this off in the OPTIONS menu). Choose OK to select the current landscape or select NEXT to generate another. Then the battle begins. The battle for each round is split into TURNS in which players alternately move individual units until all teams have moved all their units. The current unit to move will be shown centre-screen with a triangle marker underneath. You can move the unit a limited distance using the cursor keys or mouse. A bar at the bottom of the screen shows you how much movement you have left for the current unit (this resets after each turn). When you have finished moving a unit, press the ENTER key. You are now in shoot mode and can aim and fire the vehicle's gun. Turn the gun and angle it up & down using cursor keys or mouse. To fire, hold down the SPACEBAR or left mouse button and a white column will move quickly up the power bar which is now visible on the right of the screen. Let go of the SPACEBAR (or mouse button) when you think the power is right. The longer you hold down the SPACEBAR, the further you will shoot. A red line on the power bar indicates the last power value that you used for the current vehicle. As well as destroying enemy vehicles, you can also destroy trees and rocks with a well aimed shot. The shooting phase can be skipped by pressing ENTER. After all but one of the teams have been destroyed the current round will finish and the current standings will be displayed.
During the game the main part of the screen shows you a view of the battlefield, while the status bar along the bottom displays information about the battle and the currently moving unit.

The centre-right box is a simple bar graph of the relative strengths of the teams. As units get damaged and teams lose vehicles, the bar for each team will get shorter & shorter.
